This BEST Tiny Town is truly tiny and wonderful. "Downtown" is certainly the Mazama Store. A wide variety of food, drink, deli delights, espresso, ice cream and importantly place to sit and drink or eat. This is important because part of the charm of Mazama are the people. I visit Mazama coming and going from back country recreation or rock climbing near Mazama. There is a great gear shop, guiding, plenty of people who know the area and will offer recommendations for trails, camping, climbs, etc. There are family friendly car camping locations about 10 minutes down the road. There is the highest road in WA state that goes to Harts Pass. This road is doable in the Summer after it's cleared and Mazama is the last stop before heading up to Harts Pass. Plenty of car camping, fossils on the road cut up slate peak and of course the Pacific Crest Trail runs right through Harts Pass -- awesome for an over-nighter. Mazama is a great place to get those last minute trip items, beta, and to just hang out and share stories with like minded travelers. Oh yeah -- importantly Mazama has a gas station. If you just drove over highway 20 you may want to fill up before going up in the mountains.
