It is a magical walk out from the forest to reach the North Head Lighthouse. You are on top of the world and a great place to look for whales from. During summer there is an interpreter who will take you to the top of the lighthouse and tell you the history and use of the facilities. One of our friends was married up at the top of the lighthouse while we awaited them all down below and watched the sunset together with a champagne toast. And you can rent the lighthouse watchers houses just above!
It is Washington's Secret...the twenty four mile long pensinsula is surrounded by the never ending sandy beaches of the Pacific, the mystical shores of the Willapa Bay, and the wild and ever changing Columbia River. Hike along any of these areas to see Eagles and Elk. Fabulous dining celebrates local Dungeness Crab, Willapa Oysters and Bay Clams, Columbia River Sturgeon and Salmon at great places like 42nd Street, Bailey's or Full Circle Cafe for breakfast or lunch, and The Depot, Pelicano's and the Shelburne for dinner. Great place for kids to enjoy rides, go carts, the boardwalk and horseback riding on the beach in Long Beach while adults enjoy shopping in cozy book stores, galleries, gift and wine shops on the Ilwaco Port or Ocean Park or roaming the Columbia Heritage, Lewis & Clark or Cranberry Museums. Hike the Ft. Columbia State Park and see the remnants of past wars and enjoy the cliff views of the ocean and catch the whale spouts. Best place to relax and enjoy!
